Armenia, India interested in further reinforcement of bilateral ties

Within the farmework of the official visit to India Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with his Indian counterpart Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna.

Greeting Minister Nalbandian, the Indian Foreign Minister stated: “There are rich historic traditions of Armenian-Indian friendship and India wishes to take steps to further deepen its relations with Armenia.

Expressing gratitude to his Indian counterpart for the invitation to visit Dehli and the warm reception, Minister Nalbandian noted that “Armenia attaches great importance to the development and reinforcement of friendly relations with India.” “There is no problem between Armenia and India that would divide the two. Instead there are a number of factors that unite our countries. Our states have common view and stance on a number of regional and global issues,” Minister Nalbandian stated.

The Foreign Ministers agreed to organize the visit of Armenia’s President to India to boost the friendly partnership between the two countries.

The interlocutors stressed that the productive cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and educational spheres over the past few years had considerably reinforced the trust between Armenia and India and the two countries have the political will to take active steps towards deepening of mutually beneficial partnership, embracing new spheres.

Minister Nalbandian reiterated Armenia’s position on the Kashmir issue and expressed gratitude for the balanced stance of India on issues of the South Caucasus region.

The Ministers underlined that the attempts to ascribe religious coloring to the existing conflicts are non-constructive and stressed the necessity of solving all issues exceptionally in a peaceful way through negotiations.

Edward Nalbandian presented the latest development on the Karabakh settlement process. The interlocutors dwelt on a number of urgent international issues, including UN reforms. In this context Minister Krishna expressed gratitude for Armenia’s constant support to India’s permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and India discussed the steps to be taken to boost economic cooperation. Reference was made to the collaboration in the fields of education, science and culture.
